Single Occupancy Council Tax

Options
I have been living in my house alone for two and a half years. I have been paying full council tax. I know now I can get 25% off. Can I back date this? ie claim 25% off for the LAST two and half years???

phone them and ask them, but no, I don't think so............ however you can get it now if you tell them you are living alone.

There's nothing in the regs to say it cant be backdated, only that the council can require suitable evidence of eligibility.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
