Barclays online banking

My wonderful new basic account is turning into a bit of a nightmare.

There is a bankruptcy marker on my new account and neither online team or branch have the power to remove it. Online team are refusing to allow me to have online access because of this.

Does anyone else have any similar stories of this?

Am about to write a huge complaint and take as far as Ombusdman as feel this is unfair as there is nothing I can do online that I couldnt do over the phone. Except it means I can do it at a time that suits more, costs less and doesnt involve an overseas call centre.

Apparently you aren't allowed internet banking with Barclays until you're discharged. Lots of people here have found the same. Most had it to begin with then had it taken away when BR was updated on their credit file.

    It's absolutley ludicrous.

This seems to be the procedure with Barclays whilst you are an undischarged bankrupt. As peachy said several members have had the same problem. I can't hurt to write and complain.

  • That seems such a mind bogglingly stupid policy - if any segment of society needs to keep a close eye on their finances its the recently bankrupt!! What do they think they achieve by this policy?

FWIW online banking is available with the Co-Op Cashminder account (but you probably alreadu knew that!).
    BR 26th Jan 09 . . . Discharged 21/9/09 !!! :j:j:j
  • Thanks Guys. At least its not just me then. Still going to write and complain and will take it to the ombudsman.

Actually told the girl in branch that I would be opening Co op account if they cant do online banking for me as I need to keep a close eye on finances
  • i went BR 16th june , opened barclays act on 19th june and still have online banking, fingers crossed it stays.

Im not sure if it has anything to do with the 'pre approved offers' section within the online banking, I have none - just as i like it :D
