Can't face going back to my job - what to do?

Hello

I am currently off work with a broken foot and have been signed off until 14th Sept so far. I am due back at the hosp on Mon to decide whether to take the plaster off altogether or replace with a walking plaster - which may mean I am signed off longer.

My job - is in a well known bank - and my job is quite a sought after position and hard to get. The 2 people I work with are horrible! They have been with the bank for a lifetime and cant see past thei own noses. I make suggestions (I only joined the team last year) of improvements and I get shot down. There are only so many times I can pull myself back up again. I have lost a lot of my confidence and get up and go because of this. I have considered going down the "bullying" route as part if this is bullying - but dont think it will do any good.

I have been applying for other jobs while I have been off and really cant face going back.

I dont know what to do. I dont know whether to get the dr to sign me off for another few weeks as I have been quite low anyway - in the hope I will find another job or just hand my notice in and hope I will get something.

I have just had 2 phone calls from agencies this afternoon about jobs - so fingers crossed it wont take long.

But if I just give up work - I wont get any increase in tax credits will I?

Just dont know what to do and cant face going back.....

If you pack in your job you'll not get an increase in tax credits
and you probably wont get any benefits for a few weeks either.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • Thanks

Ii didnt think I would and wouldnt expect to - just need to work out what to do to get some income in.

Can I hand my notice in while I am on sick leave? Say if I was signed off for another 4 weeks and I handed my notice in 2 weeks into this? I have to give a months notice but we quite often get gardening leave etc.

I had a similar problem in a previous job - for a major bank too actually - i remember our first team meeting, i tried to make a comment on how we could approach up and coming work and another older team member just started talking and talked over me until i stopped - AND the team leader never even blinked!!

Went downhill from there. I'd be putting off going back as long as poss but looking for other work. There may well *seem* to be work out there, but it can be a prolonged process sorting something out...

Thanks Paul - we dont work for the same place do we??:rotfl:Sounds exactly the same!!

I can get 6 months paid sick leave - but dont want to really go down the "depression" route of being signed off (even though I am - I cant stop crying at the moment) as I dont think it would look good for a new employer.

This may only be helpful if you are a tough nut. Face up to the worst [you may lose your job] and then prepare to deal with your colleagues with tactics which risk the worst outcome. Tell them they are bang out of order.

One thing I will say is: If you are on the verge of quitting you have nothing to lose by addressing the issues you have with HR. Do you have a direct Line Manager or is this person involved? Don't get me wrong, I am not saying cause a big stink and demand retribution but you need to say your bit and get it off your chest. It will be very good for your assertiveness at the very least. If you aren't happy, say so.......

Thanks but already tried this - keep getting myself together - and try and give a piece of their medicine - but just never seem able to lower myself . So try and rise above it and then get stuff chucked in my face...like "is it ok if I leave at 4.30 today, I was in at 8" reply "do you really need to?"!!!!

Thanks - already started this but not got far. Contacted HR - they said yes I have a case for bullying - speak to my Line Manager who should be first to help. My line manager thinks the sun shines out of one of them in particular - so wouldnt get far.

But before I leave - when I have a job and whether I go back or not - I WILL have say my piece and they will know exactly what I think ;)
