Me again!
I was advised to get a new account, but have applied for a basic one with Co-op (no reply whatsoever), Abbey turned me down but I dont want them anyway because their receptionist embarrassed me in front of everyone in the bank, the stupid cow and I have also been rejected by Smile and HSBC.
WHAT am I supposed to do?

I managed to get a parachute account at Lloyds. I applied for a cash account which is the easiest to get and you can upgrade later as you fit their criteria. It required a passport and a recent bill. No deposit, and within 15 minutes of walking in to the branch, I had my sort code and account number, my password for their Internet banking service and the next day I received my card.
I was slightly stunned at their efficiency, and regardless of whether my bank action closes my account at RBS or not, I'm switching banks!0 -

PM me your email address and I'll email you a spreadsheet that details all the banks and what links they with your creditors. I will also email you a link to a thread that you must read inconjunction with the spreadsheet to make any sense of it.

Hi,
I had a basic bank account with nationwide for a couple of years and found the staff very unhelpful, the charges for unpaid direct debits were bad enough, but on top of that I was charged for having unauthorised overdrafts. These so-called overdrafts only existed because they tried to take the bank charges when there was nothing in my account. I was in a circle of hell, of being charged for charges, which led to more charges. Eventually I gave up, am now pursuing them for £1000, and opened up a shiny lovely new Co-Operative bank account that came with an electron card. However, I have just found out that a friend of mine had 3 bounced direct debits on his co-op account and they closed it down. Is this standard practice and legally enforceable? I dont want to leave the co-op because their charges are low and you get a debit card but have had 2 bounced direct debits (not my fault of course, they take them on inconvenient dates etc without notice etc)...
Ideally I would like a basic account that gets upgraded. I've managed to get 2 high interest credit cards (littlewoods and vanquis) recently, so my credit score must be improving, but all I really want is a current account and a small overdraft to help with rogue direct debits.
