wondering if anyone can tell me if it would be worth my while claiming PPI back when i had to go IVA due to these loans.

Find a company that works on a no win no fee basis and knock yourself out!
Nothing to lose!
The banks may say you didn't pay the full debt so they're writing the PPI off the balance but since your IVA dealt with the debt then there IS no balance!
In some cases it's worth noting that if you hadn't been mis-sold crippling PPI payments perhaps your debts would not have gotten so uncontrollably away from you!Would you ask the wolves to look after the sheep?
