Hi all,
I ve seen a number of MSE'rs buy fruit and veg boxes (I assume online), wouldnt it be cheaper to buy from the local supermarket? Whats the reason for the getting the box?

locally grown UK produce and often organic.

I haven't compared prices though (I'm not at home enough to get one delivered :().
working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?
  • Most peoples replies will be its local produce, better for the environment (most dont transport good by air) and organic therefore a better taste. I agree with these but my main reason for having one, ok Im lazy, is I will use the veg if its there so we eat healthier. Before I got the boxes delivered if I hadnt been shopping for a couple of days and had no veg for tea we just wouldnt eat veg until the next time we went shopping. It also means Im experimenting with veg I wouldnt normally buy. We only get ours fortnightly though and it costs £11.95 for a 'favourites' veg box.
I dont buy extras as they are very expensive.
  • We tried a trial at one of the veg box places for a couple of months and it as opened our eyes to a lot of veg which we wouldn't normally buy but now will (and some which we will continue not to buy!). We'll now buy from local shops, so all in all its been worthwhile for us.
  • i've been looking at our local veg company and have been toying with the idea to try it. think i'll give it a go next week
I'm trying so hard to be thrifty, but it doesn't come naturally. You lot are an inspiration!
