Oh and say on a joint mortgage/rent is £700, and each person pays 50% at £350

if one person applies for a loan, most lenders state the full mortgage/rent payment of £700 should be keyed as that individual is fully liable, even though it is joint

HELP!! I've just applied for a loan - trying to get myself out of a hole and I'm feeling pretty desperate. I applied online for an Alliance & Leicester Loan with a typical APR of 6.3% - when I called them up to go through some questions - the best they could offer me was 10.3%!!! I can't afford that - any ideas what I can try next?? If I apply somewhere else, will I get the same response? Also, I'm worried that if I apply again too soon, obviously another search will show up on my credit record (just got my credit score and its 'fair' - how can I improve this - could this be what's affecting me getting a decent APR?) HELP!!!!!

Your desperation appears to be reflected in the APR you are being quoted.

   well i have probably the worst loan on this thread so far from a well known high street bank for £10600 at ....... wait for it...... 16.9%

so guess ill be paying well over the odds back, really wish i didn't have to take it and was more money conscious then, i,e didn't really know the interest rate was bad at the time!

   ow well 4 years to go.....

Sophie, have you thought of taking out another loan with the lowest interest rate you can find? You could pay off the first loan with it and you'd save quite a lot.

  • I just checked my credit report and thought I would use their loans comparison to try and get a consolidation loan.

I ended up on the beat that quote site where I was called back by WHloan.co.uk.

I explained I was only after a quote and didn't want to affect my credit score but found that I ended up giving most details for a loan application. I explained I lived with parents but still ended up being put forward for a secured loan? I was made an offer for less than I wanted and was then told my score had been affected.

Was this some form of scam as I was obviously lied to by the first advisor who also put the wrong details down?

I'm definitely not impressed by the service and what appears to be dodgy tactics. Certainly won't be using Experian's credit report service again!
  • Let them know about Consumer Credit Act 1974 Seciton 155 and they will give you full refund minus £5. You can do a search online.

If they don't follow the act, you can report to the consumer credit act.
  • I want a loan for £7k and was offered the full amount by my bank at an APR of 15.5%. I have a good credit rating and I am on a good salary so I was really surprised by this high rate. Could anyone advise if there are many cheaper products on the market or if 15.5% is a fairly standard rate to receive right now. Many thanks in advance for any assistance.

Checked out Tesco personal finance for an unsecured personal loan to consolidate one small loan and a couple of credit cards. The quote came up with an interest rate of 8.1% which was alot better than the loan I wanted to consolidate. Decided to apply for £8,000 over 5 years. Got an offer and interest rate was lower !!!!!! (that has to be a first) Rate was 7.9%
