temptation everywhere i turn!

just when i think i have got my spending and ability to say no to things i dont need under control - something comes along that i cant resist!

today i went to the gym with my friend from work, and we did a brilliant work out. i really enjoyed it and feel much better for it. i used her free guest pass, but no i would really like to join. but the downside it is £58 a month

also she mentioned that her and her OH are going to Cuba and have had a couple drop out, they have paid £150 so if me and my OH wanted to go we would only have to pay the remainder of £700 each. all inc, 5 star, first class flight, 2 weeks in sunny Cuba! we havent had a holiday for YEARS and I am SOOOOO tempted i could cry.

ahhhhhh its so unfair!

rant over! im sure someone is testing my DFW willpower today!

Aaaw, sorry that you are being tested today hun!! That holiday does sound good - but soooOOOOOOOoo expensive. Are your friends in debt by any chance? Why did the other couple drop out? Couldnt you find a cheaper holiday for half the price? Its a lot of £££££ - if you used that to pay off your debts, how many months would your DFD be bought forward? xx

Incidentally, 5 star cuba isnt worth the money. Becuiase of the embargo the food in AI is REALLY POOR. I stayed in a couple, and mates of mine have as well. Its the chicken legs in a crap sauce variety.

Cuba itself is stunning, and independent travel is far and away a better experience than all inclusive, maybe thier mates heard that & thats why they dropped out :)
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

    Hiya Lou,
I am going through the same thing at the moment, except I am not resisting!!! Can your friend get you anymore free guest passes? Can you pay £10 a time to go with her? Maybe you can go twice a month? Also take a look at the freebies board they often have gym member passes on offer:

don't know if this offer is still on/ of any use, I got my pass last week!

Thats way too expensive IMO your talking just shy of £700 a year

What about a local authority gym ?
equipment and facilities may not be as good, but hey a gyms a gym.
go in - train - come out feeling good :D

I work in a local council run gym and we charge £28 p/m for a peak package. the facilities are very good aswell.

might be worth shopping around ? :D

You'll get your wonderful holiday one day and it'll be all the better to go knowing that you have actually paid for it out of money you can afford.

there are a lot of cheaper gyms but if you work out with a friend it's a bit pointless going to 2 different gyms.

:T Well done for resisting the temptation, Loupeyloulou...!!!:T

I would have been tempted by the holiday, too, but although it might be a fantastic 2 weeks:o , punch the figures into the snowball calculator first - 1. if you pay £1400 and have two weeks in the sun, and 2. if you resist and stick to your budget.

Then, work out how much you currently service your debts with each month, and times it by the amount of months difference between the 2 debt free dates produced by the calculator:eek: . I bet you will probably have at least £1400 to spend on whatever holiday you fancy (not just somebody else's choice of their unwanted "leftovers"!!;) ) - and it will feel so much better knowing that your holiday is not adding to your debt and you aren't going to be paying for it for months after you get back (and the tan has faded and the holiday snaps and a bigger debt are your only memory!!).

Stay strong - you know its the right thing to do!:A
