i had £200 and brought barcleys shares , well my dad did with the money, at around £1.08 a share, they are now worth £3.73 a share, wish i brought more. At there lowest they were 50p a share!!

At the time everyone told me not to invest because these where my savings not a lot but i am a student with no job at this point,. However, this was at the start of the recession when it was all doom and gloom. But i did it and it has paid off, i am not going to sell them yet though because they are only going to rise.

I invested after a lot of research, my dad buys a lot of shares etc. He brought barcleys shares at around £6 last year lol!

Anyway i would not put the whole £2000 pounds into an investment maybe just put in a couple of hundred. If you are going to buy shares a sound investment are things that are always needed and are 'precious' such as oil, gold etc. But then i really don't know too much so do your research before hand!!!

Unless you want to risk your cash, I would suggest you don't go anywhere near shares at the moment. Too volatile.

I was going to suggest matched betting too-start slowly and cautiously and don't do a thing until you are absolutely clear on how it works and follow the excellent advice given on the MB thread.

Not only now but shares are always a risk. Trading them is nohing more than a respectable form of gambling.
  • Hi SammyS1987, I have some great news. I am delighted to inform you that you have won the Portugese lottery (despite you never entering it). To claim your prize, just send me your £2000 via Western Union as an administration fee and then I shall send you the £37.5 million you have won.
  • Wow! I actually won?!? I will send it immediately. I wonder if I did actually buy 2000 lottery tickets how much I would actually win? Probably a tenner knowing my luck!

There is a risk and yes it could be seen to be a respectable gamble, but there have been many opportunities to buy whilst cheap over the last year.. I am reaping rewards with some springing back, on the flip side I am losing on others quite significantly. Overall though I am seeing profit... it is a matter of patience in my limited experience, however, I am happy to wait as I am happy to use cash savings for the emergencies, but, if I was to need the money I would not tie up the cash in shares.
  • Hi Skint_student, That is really good to know. I am also interested in Share Trading. But i didnt know that we can start with 200 pounds. Can you please tell me what is the procedure to open share trading account and how much minimum we can invest?

Yes history would suggest that shares is better for the long term but there is no fundamental reason for this trend to continue. Who is to say that shares will be higher in 50 years time? They might but then they might not.

As above really, I have the money sitting in an ISA at the moment which I have saved for when I go travelling next year. Or if I can find an idea good enough I could use it now to make more money. Thing is I have no idea what to do! All suggestions welcome.

u can u do one thing - just buy few domain names and sell them. or make some good informative website and sell them.. Happy earning..
