Frugality and "handmedowns"

When I was I kid We were so poor that I thought handmedowns was a shop. Because that's where my mum always used to get my stuff from. However as I have matured I realise now that second hand stuff can be an ideal way of money saving. For instance last week I logged on to eswapit.com and got my hands on a couple of Stephen King books I had never read, in return for a couple of paperbacks gathering dust in the corner now I would have probabley spent a pretty penny on such a find in the shops but all it cost me was a quid for postage. There are a few of these sites on the web another one being freecycle. They are all most definetly worth a go most of them are free to register and swap and some are even giving prizes to gain your interest.

Happiness is a perfume you cannot pour on others without getting a few drops on yourself.

Another that has been mentioned on here (and that I use regularly!) is https://www.readitswapit.co.ukSealed Pot Challenge 5 - #1742 :j0

Was quite easy.
List an item using the submit button. Or if you are looking for something look in the Swap directory and click on the item you want to swap with.
The hardest part is working out you both have to click accept for your details to be exchanged but it gives you the chance to ask questions about the stuff first using a reply button.
Oh yeah forgot to mention you need to be registered to do submit and swap stuff. But it's free so Hidie Ho! The freeecycle system is a little more labourious, you join what is in effect a mailing list and get loads of emails a day each time someone lists something and the draw back is it's a yahoogroups thing so you join the group in your area so you only ever get local stuff. With the eswapit system you only get a mail when someone is interested in what youv'e got and you can look all over the country. As I am dealing with books and CDS postage is not that bad.
