house sitting

Hi, I know this is not exactly house sitting, but wondered if any one has done this or can give me advice.
May have the chance to look after someones 3 bed house while they are away (1yr) But they also have let out 2 of the bed rooms, so it would be up to us to go over to the house maybe twice a week, clean it sometimes etc etc, so how would we go about it, To make money on it, would we write down all the times we go and do stuff, Any body any idea? Thanks

Depends what exactly is required.
You say a house, does that involve a garden which may involve maintenance like grass cutting?
If one of the tenants leaves during the year would it be your reponsibility to re advertise and re let the room?
Who buys the cleaning materials?
Is window cleaning involved?
What happens if any appliances break or need replacemnt who is responsible for sorting that out?
If all runs smoothly it could be quite a cushy number. However if there are glitches they could be time consuming to sort out.
Personally I would be inclined to negotiate a weekly fee. Some weeks I would get money for nothing other weeks I might have to earn it. I would hope the former would outnumber the latter then I would be in profit.0 -
As far as I know, as this is in the very early stages, We would go in and maybe give a clean once/twice a week, maybe a bit extra once every 6 weeks, there is a very small garden, And for the students coming and going it is foreign PhD students who come for 10 weeks or so, And they are from my hubby's work Don't think we would have a problem getting money to replace anything. Plus He would be coming over every 4weeks for a week end.I think it sounds a good way of making a bit of money, that is if we can work out what to charge0

Find out the profit and ask them for a percentage0

Hi,
Sounds like it could be a good chance to earn some money if you look into it carefully.
I work part time as a housekeeper and have to look after the house when they are away (it's not occupied). But at times the responsibility is quite a lot.
I would suggest you find out exactly what would be required of you. Cleaning should be payed at at least £7.50 an hour. All cleaning materials should be paid for ny house owner.
Questions you should ask: What cleaning is needed and how often?
Who is responsible for security? Are you expected to solve any problems -be available if there is problem? Do you have to collect the rent?
It could work and work for you but once you have answers I would suggest a weekly rate, contact the domestic help agencies and see how much they charge and go in a bit lower.
Good luck I hope you can make some money.Debt at start of DMP 1/6/09: £2942 - £1942
