  • can i ask a really thick question here. is it that simple to close a cc account? i have 2, which are all fully paid up, and which i want to shut, but thought i would have to put it in writing or something to close the account and have been putting it off. (they are capital one and halifax visa)
    thanks

Capital one won't close an account down fully till they have it in writing. Most accounts are like this, they keep the account open just incase you change your mind.

I just rang up and said i'd like to close my account please and after much chit chat about me being such a good customer (yeh right) they finally agreed to shut me down. told me to cancel direct debits and any other regular charges and that i will get a letter in the post confirming it. also told me to cut up my card. very nice people on the phone i must say - just want me to spend is all! haha. the number i rang is on the site on the help section. its an 0800 number too :) :T
