Washing without Rinsing?

Hi
As I live in a tiny flat have never had a washing machine and have always had to send my washing to laundrette.
Times are hard and anything to save money I found a v small camping washing machine on offer in Maplins for £25.

It's worked very well but in the instructions it says wash and then wring and hang out to dry - no rinsing - is this right? I'm using a cap full of Ecover laundry liquid to 10 litres of water.

Many thanks if you can advise.
Henbane

That doesn't sound right - I wouldn't want to wear something that hadn't been rinsed in clean water! I would have thought that you would drain the washer, add clean water, agitate, drain again and then put in spin drier.

If you have to wring it out before hanging it to dry, can you rinse it in the sink first? I don't think I would like to wear anything that hadn't been rinsed - it would feel hard and rough.
  • I agree, you may develop a reaction if all the powder isn't rinsed out. I'd follow Magentasue's advice and give the clothes a good rinse before wringing them.

Is it one of those little machines which stand on the side of the sink and fills from a hose connected to the tap? If so, I had one of those when I was a student, and it did do the wash automatically, but you then had to empty it via a lever and refill a couple of times with clean water to rinse the clothes, then drain the machine and wring the clothes out (tho' in the end, I bought the tiny spindryer that went with it as it was hard getting stuff dry in a small flat). I think you may find your skin gets itchy & uncomfortable if you leave all that soap in.

I think whoever wrote the instructions was taking it for granted that washing the clothes includes rinsing them, so they didn't bother to say so explicitly ;)
