Tax assessment Help

I am trying to do my husbands tax returns online without an accountants help. He was PAYE April 08 until October 09 when he was made redundant.
He then signed on and recieved nothing from JS apart from a tax refund. When I work out the calculations online they give payment for 2008-09 account due 31 Jan 2010 of £497.80. How can this be PAYE until made redundant no JSA support, just a refund 21st April 2009?
Would paying for an accountant help.
He is now registered self employed.

I think your dates are wrong,
with the online calculator is that the total tax due? If so you will need to deduct what tax has been paid less the refund.
It would help if all the information was given.

Why are you self assessing when all he had was wages and JSA? The refund he received from the Benefit Office is correct, there is nothing further due.

OK, so all he had during 08-09 were PAYE earnings, so thats all you need to enter on the form. You also need to show the refund received from the JC, which is the correct amount due. The end result is that he owes no tax and is owed no tax.

I will try to do the online assessment again,
I forgot to mention while PAYE he also had car mileage, so I need to include that somewhere?

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Name Dropper Combo Breaker
Did he have any other income? Untaxed interest, rental on houses or something that you haven't shown in these figures?

If the car mileage was covered by a dispensation and did not appear on his P11d, then you dnt enter it on the self assessment.

    Hi,
Have started to redo the online form, he did not have any other income apart from the PAYE amount 27,819.00, income tax paid 4,356.80 jsa refund 568.00
I did not have a P11d but have worked out milage 12342.70
    I make it 10000 @ 40p - 4000.00
    2342 @ 25p - 585.50
£4585.50 minus 2468.54 already paid by employer
£2116.96...................But I don't know where this goes, I have read through the form and it mentions company cars and fuel for company car but the car was not company?
Hope you can help....it looks like I'll have to fork out for an accountant to help as I donot want to do it incorrectly.
