Five spice

Hi all

Long time lurker here with a question. Sorry if this is the wrong place.

Does anyone know if there is any sort of substitute for Five Spice? I have looked in all the shops in my town and I can't find any anywhere!

I've got quite a few spices in already so is there anything I could make up so it is almost Five Spice?

MMM ;)

I have Morrisons own 5spice which is made up of, star anise; cinnamon; fennel; black pepper and clove.
I also have Schwartz thai 7 spice, which has, chile; oregano; garlic; lemon peel; ginger; corriander; ground pepper; cumin; star anise; onion powder' pineapple juice.
Can't see any reason you couldn't try to mix your own, experiment until you find the best to your personal taste.

  • Well I've got cinnamon, cloves and black pepper so I have started mashing them together. So its just a 3 spice for now. I think that will have to do until I can find some.

My friend's family are chinese so I think I will ask her where her mum gets all her spices from and see if she can get me any.

Thanks for your help guys!!
