Five spice

Hi all

Long time lurker here with a question. Sorry if this is the wrong place.

Does anyone know if there is any sort of substitute for Five Spice? I have looked in all the shops in my town and I can't find any anywhere! :mad:

I've got quite a few spices in already so is there anything I could make up so it is almost Five Spice?

well here is the wiki definition for you, so if you have those spices in you could grind them up together

could always look at mail order for spices, i think i saw a thread with some details on a while ago, i'll have a look.........

I have Morrisons own 5spice which is made up of, star anise; cinnamon; fennel; black pepper and clove.
I also have Schwartz thai 7 spice, which has,chile; oregano; garlic; lemon peel; ginger; corriander; ground pepper; cumin; star anise; onion powder' pineapple juice.
Can't see any reason you couldn't try to mix your own, experiment until you find the best to your personal taste.

Well I've got cinnamon, cloves and black pepper so I have started mashing them together. So its just a 3 spice for now. I think that will have to do until I can find some.

My friend's family are chinese so I think I will ask her where her mum gets all her spices from and see if she can get me any.
