Wedding Present Ideas

One of my best friends is getting married in a few weeks and I'm a bit stuck for a present. There are things on their gift list, but plates and vases seems a bit impersonal for someone I've known for over 20 years!

So I'm looking for some suggestion or ideas if I may!

The couple: late 20's, early 30's, she's a teacher, he's a solicitor, they are both very sensitive to human rights type issues and are environmentally "aware". My friend lived in Japan teaching English there a few years back and they are returning there in the Spring for their honeymoon. If I could get something that encompassed all this, it would be great! But what?! That is the question!

All suggestions welcome! Many many thanks!

I know you think that vases may be a bit impersonal but how about a crystal vase - they will remember who bought it for them, I know that when I use the one some law students gave me, I still think about them and wonder what they are doing (or maybe that's just me).

How about making them a hamper containing eco-friendly goodies - e.g. fairtrade chocolate etc.
  • How about sponsoring a child in a third world country?? My friend does this & each year she gets a lovely letter from the child she has sponsored, telling all about how well they are doing at school.

    xx
  • what about something personal to their wedding day? I recently got my best friend an original (the artist painted it the week before the wedding) painting of the chapel they were married in, she loved it!

Not so personal but useful, Yen to take on honeymoon

What about a Japanese Acer/Maple Tree - there are lots of different types to choose from and many can be grown in a pot or planted so suitable for all types of garden. They can be bought a lot cheaper online and are usually nicer specimens than can be found in the garden centres.

Another idea would be framed prints or canvas of Japanese Blossom - there are many beautiful ones around and would tie in well with the honeymoon.

When one of my best friends got married a couple of years ago, I got him and his wife a 'do something for 2' experience voucher. Kind of like a Red Letters day type thing. They could choose from 8 different experience days ranging from relaxing to adrenaline, and book it for a date that suited them within the next 12 months.

I just figured they were being given so much stuff already, and after the wedding excitement was over it'd be good to have an extra thing to look forward to doing together. :)
