Very Depressed - is this normal

  • Hi, Larzie - you are not alone in feeling like this, I know this wont help but I also feel like a failure, and most importantly that because of my past irresponsible spending and borrowing I have let my little girl down and dragged my (solvent and financially careful) partner into a horrible mess. I feel like a criminal, receiving court orders etc. I went bankrupt on 14th August, received my forms etc on 23rd and have started filling them in, with my OR interview on 28th September. On Saturday I felt I could not face any of this, my head was spinning with questions and I just didnt know who to ask, or which were important and I just wanted to curl up and die. I can truly say that since registering on this site, I feel much, much better, I have had such support and positive feedback, I feel able to face this now and I dont feel so alone. Thanks everyone, and I still have hundreds of questions to ask, so you will be hearing from me soon! Remember, Larzie, life goes on, you are not alone, and I now find out you are in very comforting and helpful company. Thanks everyone... x
  • hi larzie it was my birthday over weekend also felt fed up.be strong you have got half of it over. you will settle down im sure, its natural to be depressed when you have been through so much stress.it can only get better an im sure it will.look to the future larzie penny xx
  • Depression is (in my experience) 1/3 circumstance, 1/3 in the mind and 1/3 related to diet. You should, all things being equal, be resolved of the circumstance by becoming bankrupt. :)

That just leaves the mind and diet. The mind will come round eventually. As for the diet, up your Omega-3 intake. Get yourself lots of lovely fish to eat, add flaxseed to your morning breakfast, take a fish-oil supplement. You'll (hopefully!) be amazed at how better you feel in as little as 24 hours. :)

    Do something amazing. GIVE BLOOD.
  • thanks so much for all of your words of encouragement, I guess I just have to ride it out for a little bit, perhaps things will be better after my OR interview. If I am not feeling a little better after that will make an appointment at the docs. Much as I don't want anyone else to have felt or be feeling this way, it is a little reassuring to know its not just me. Thanks again.

Bankrupt 10.50hrs 27th August 2009. Big fan of this forum because people are so helpful.
  • Yes I did also but it was perhaps more guilt having tried to work things out but not been able to. I also did the deed on my birthday which in hindsight was a good move as after you are discharged it’s an extra celebration and helps to remind you not to get into the same situation again.

The worst however is over and the relief which you will feel over the next few weeks, months will be worth it.

big hugs, i really hope you feel better soon. me and my partner went bankrupt last thursday and he is feeling much like you, as others have said we are still on the bankruptcy rollercoaster. i feel a sense of relief that ive faced up to my debts and done something about it. but it such a huge thing and so emotionally draining that its hard to see the light at the end.
i really hope you feel better about it all soon.

thanks again for your replies. Hanstar I still know I have done the right thing and in fact the only thing right for me. Just struggling a lot with being cheery and looking forward, I am almost certain that I will feel better when the OR side of things is sorted and perhaps your other half will too.

  • know exactly how you feel - went BR on Friday and don't feel any different - in fact have been very edgy and unsettled all over the weekend. I think it's because nothing's actually changed yet - got the interview and need the answers on the car and house etc and what IPA we are going to have all ahead before we can really move forward with our lives!

    Keep your pecker up!
  • i have been in stressful situations if not the same as you..the fact that you think that every bad thing happens for a reason and there are other people in the world who are suffering more than you is a good sign for you to come out of this stress soon..try thinking about other things in the world rather than what has happened to you..you will get out of this stress soon..
