Please help - ancestry.co.uk trial charges

Please can someone help me. I recently signed up with ancestery.co.uk with their trial membership and after a couple of hours I decided it wasn't for me so I e-mailed them immediately to cancel and phoned the following morning to cancel. I spoke to a lady and cencelled it.

I have now received an e-mail saying I am now a deluxe member and have been charged £70 and that there are no refunds. I feel like crying.

Has anyone been in this position with these people? What can I do?

2.2 Cancellations. Initial Annual Subscription. An initial annual subscription comes with the option to cancel during the first 7 working days and receive a full refund, unless the subscription began with a free trial period, in which case the provisions below apply. The 7 working-day period begins on the day you register for the subscription Service, which is also the day you are given access to the subscription area of the Service. If you subscribe to the Service following a free or other trial period, that trial period takes the place of the 7 working day cancellation period, and once the paid subscription begins, no refund will be provided. Cancellations during the 7 working days must be made by calling us on 0800 404 9723 (free phone) from the UK, or +1 801 705 7620 (a toll call) from outside of the UK. Member service is available from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. GMT, Monday through Saturday. Or send an e-mail to cancel@ancestry.co.uk and provide the following information:

Given name and surname
Username
Subscription type (UK/Ireland collection, etc.)
E-mail address used when subscribing
Phone number including country code
Country

Your cancellation call or email must be received by end of day (12:00 Midnight GMT) on the 7th working day after the subscription begins. Please allow a reasonable time for the refund to reach you or be charged back to your credit card if you have subscribed by credit card. All other subscriptions, including monthly subscriptions, quarterly subscriptions, or annual renewals, may be cancelled by you at any time but no refund will be made for unused subscription periods.

  • Hi Guys, I emailed them to complain and have just received this! I still feel like crying but now of happiness! I would strongly recommend never giving your credit card details for a trial unless you are seriously considering buying the membership!

Hope the refund comes through now!

    We appreciate your message.

Per your request, we have terminated the following:
    Annual U.K. Deluxe membership
Your access to the databases associated with the above will expire immediately. Because your account has already been billed for this access, we are issuing you a refund today for the subscription fee of £69.95. Please note that typically such refunds take five (5) business days to post to your account. If you have any further questions, please contact us again with these.

Hi Claire, I had exactly the same trouble with ancestry.co.uk. I put in my details for the pay per view and somehow instead of being charged £6 they charged me £68 for a yearly subscription. I phoned them and they did refund me, but it took over a week to be refunded to my credit card.
