Any problems with the use of a car??

Hi all.

Ive just been told that my dad might be getting me a car (prob worth around £1000 or so) to enable me to get to work much easier.

Its a very nice thing for him to do considering my current situation.
Can anybody tell me what the situation is with being insured to drive a car which isnt owned by myself??
Do I have to declare this to the OR and if so, what might be the possible outcome??

I dont want him to be spending anything at all until I know the facts regarding the use of a car.

Thanks.

If you've already had your OR interview I don't think you need to declare anything to the OR. You can be the registered keeper of the car without being the owner anyway. Make sure your dad buys the car and has the receipt in his name and you'll be fine.

  • Hi fiveyearplan,

I was made Br on 19th of this month and havent heard a peep off the OR since, dont know if thats a good thing or not though?? Should I be chasing them??
Anyway, my dad is waiting to hear what you very helpful people say before he does anything at all. In any case, it wont be for at least a month or two at least.
So basically, if it happens AFTER my OR interview, whether it be by phone or face to face, I dont have to say a single thing?? Is that a fact??

I wouldn't take it as a fact, but I don't think you have to declare a car after your BR and after your interview. If you haven't heard from the OR by t he end of the week I would chase him up. Have you had your information pack from OR yet? I think the answer you are looking for would be in there (or not as the case may be!). If you haven't received that yet I would phone tomorrow for it.

  • I havent heard a peep from them, no phone call or letter.
I know my case is incredibly straight forward but I thought I wouldve had something by now??
Like you say, the welcome pack (which, for a bankrupt is quite a funny thing to get)!! should explain everything??

I think it should have all the information you need to know. My pack came with a letter to say what was inside and half the stuff was missing which is why I'm a bit vague here but I think it should have all you need to know.

I also believe in the 'need to know' basis of divulging information. If I'm not asked I won't disclose things I don't see as relevant however if they ask I will give an honest answer - just don't volunteer anything.
