Hi all. Have just picked up a Hitachi STM1 steamer ( http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/store/cur_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0247813920.1146506106@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccegaddhjfifhhhcflgceggdhhmdgml.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=108363&category_oid= one) from local currys in Manchester Ancoats, only one box left when I left. Should have been £40 ( not worth this), then to £20 and now to £10.
I phoned currys earlier and there were 9 left at Bury, this offer apparently ends tomorrow (Tuesday).

Is it a 'Steam' or a 'Slow' cooker (is there a difference ?) as the website has it as a slow cooker :rolleyes:0

I don`t know why there calling it a "slow cooker", it is a steamer i.e. it boils water to evaporate it into steam, the stteam then cooks your food.
I haven`t got the box to read of as I left in my dads car.0 -

Two reviews on the currys website, one of which says this item was no good and didn't steam properly. The same reviewer then proceeds to give it 7 out of 10!

The self-powered steamer jobbies are reputed to be painfully slow. We got a microwave version from John Lewis, brilliant, and very quick. Amazing how much flavour is lost in boiling veggies, and of course, how much goodness goes down the plughole.0

Silly question, but how does that work ? Doesent food cooks inside out in a microwave ?0

Don't know, I'm afraid, but you only need very little water, which turns to steam of course, and I suppose that the microwave cooks normally to some extent, but the steam is trapped and playing its part as well. The results though are far better than either boiling or normal microwaving.fifo wrote:Silly question, but how does that work ? Doesent food cooks inside out in a microwave ?
Asda actually sell bags of veggies for cooking in the microwave, which work on the same principle, but are of course much more expensive, and you don't get to choose your own quality and quantity, so they are o.k., but not as good as the steamed sort that you do yourself.
Read about this thing somewhere, but could only find it in John Lewis. Sadly no good for a large family though, bit too small. Fast though, would have all the normal steamer owners gnashing their teeth if they compared times.0
