Home made exfoliator?

I recently lost my job and am trying to spend as little as possible until I'm on my feet again.

I need some exfoliator, but it's expensive in Boots. Does anyone know how to make a home-made substitute?

  • Boots do a facial exfoliator pad. It looks like a slim, round, white Brillo pad and it's always on the bottom shelf of the skin section in our store. It cost under £2 when I got my last one and I just keep shoving it in the wash when it looks a bit grubby. It has been very good value

I have used a lovely bodyshop one which is made from ground rice (you mix it with a little water to make a paste). The other alternative is to use a scubby cloth, I have some scrubby gloves (from a cheap shop) which I use with my normal cleanser, I also have a scrubby sponge (which looks just like the white bit from a non-stick pan sponge) I always wondered about just using one of those!

Olive oil (or any other cooking oil, with salt, sugar or oatmeal, depending on how harsh/gentle you want the scrub to be.

I vote for sugar and water, I find salt too harsh but sugar works a treat!!
