Removing Oil Stains

My DD has covered her jacket in oil from the locks at Foxton Locks. I rubbed the stain with washing up liquid and soaked it in cold water for several hours before machine washing it.

The oil stain hasn't budged at all. It is on one of those Regatta outdoor type coats.

Any idea of how I might shift it?

As it is machine oil, you might want to ask a mechanic for a blob of the handwash stuff every garage has - usually either Tufanega or Swarfanega.If you are desperate, you can probably buy a small container of it at Halfords or somewhere similar. It gets oil and grease off hands really well, so might work for a coat. I know I have used it on fresh garage dirt marks on my jeans, and it worked. Not so sure about a stain that has been washed, as it might have set.

I would wash it with a biological washing powder on a hot wash afterwards.
