Account written off - advice needed!

Quick recap.
Had argos additions account, with PPI. OH made redundant - made claim. Twelve months later Insurance company paid out £390 leaving difference of £300 built up over twelve months, insurance payments, interest and charges.
Rang debt collection company up on Saturday to be told that following the payment from Sterling Insurance (I also wrote them a letter stating if they couldn't provide me with the signed credit agreement they couldn't chase me for the debt) they had 'written the debt off'. Now I am worrying about my credit file.
Does anyone know how this is reflected in my credit file. I was going to write and ask them, but i thought if they have written it off because they have no credit agreement, me writing and asking them may be like admitting in writing that it is my debt.
Should I also now write to Argos additions and ask them to close the account LOL - or is that laughable given that they had passed it to debt collectors.
Any help is once again much appreciated.

Hi Sammy
I'm not at all knowledgeable in this area, but one thing that sticks out, is that they've written it off following the insurance payout and what they've written off looks like the charges since redundancy?
Could it be possible that had the insurers paid up at the time, those charges wouldn't have existed/been added?
If that's the case, I don't think you've anything to worry about, but don't take my word for it! Could it be worth phoning them to check if that's what has happened?
Really needs someone with knowledge on this to advise.Back on the DFW Wagon:

Hello sammy115
I would suggest you order your credit file from experian and equifax. It costs £2 per agency and it will give you a list of which accounts you have that are still open and what is their status.
If you then do this again in 3-4 months time, you will see any changes caused by the Argos situation.
This way you won't have any contact with Argos unless you really must (if the account is shown as still open).
Good luck, I have been reading your posts and the whole thing sounds horrendous. A 'good' advert against PPI!Leason learnt :beer:0
