Car Expenses

I bought my brova a car so that when he's BR, he still has wheels. I will pay the insurance on it.
Can someone tell me if the OR will ok the other expenses, ie petrol, maintainance, MOT's etc., on his SOA
Thank You:question::question:

    If it is equal to the cost of alternative public transport, or if there is no alternative public transport, yes.

    But one thing, you bought the car and allowed him to use it, you did not gift (give) it to him, just to be on the safe side as some OR,s may treat it as an asset, depending if it was before or after the date he declared BR;)
    Thats it, i am done, Blind-as-a-Bat has left the forum, for good this time, there is no way I can recover this account, as the password was random, and not recorded, and the email used no longer exits, nor can be recovered to recover the account, goodbye all …………. :(
  • Also remember that on his SOA he has to give details of any vehicle he has use of so would need to note the car down in any case even if it isn't in his name.

    And BAAB is quite right; make sure you are both clear that it's 'your' car which he uses otherwise it may well be viewed as an asset. It isn't clear from your post what the intention is

    Thanks for your replies. I bought the car coz the one he had needed an MOT and he hadn't the money to pay for repairs. So he sold it and has the money put aside in the bank to give to the OR. The public transport where he lives is poor and to get to me by train is an hours journey to even get to the station. To be honest its going to be cheaper him having the car. I take your point re its my car that he uses but hes the registered keeper. The point about train fares etc would OR expect well prebooked fare or ordinary fares? I do have the bill of sale which is clearly made out in my name.

    The bill of sale in your name should prove it is your car. The registered keeper isn't always the legal owner of the car.

    He will need to say he has the use of it - that will also allow him to put down some motoring expenses like petrol, insurance etc.

    Thanks fyp. Thats reasuring re motoring costs ie petrol. I was getting worried coz we've done his soa to include £90/mth and i thought if the or didn't accept this, it would have thrown his soa into an excess of £99! He only has his state pension, would they be able to take any of this?

    The OR will look at ALL of his income and essential outgoings to determine if there's enough surplus to take a percentage for an IPO/IPA. If he's getting State Pension as his only income it's unlikely that an IPO/IPA would be made as this is a fairly minimal amount.
