Wax on a glass table

Forgive me everyone if I'm being a bit stupid!

I clean for my brother and SIL. They have a VERY expensive glass table. They had dinner the other night, blew out the big churchy type candle and blew wax all over the table.

I tried to get the worst of it off using a blunt knife but am scared to death of damaging the table!!! She is very eco-friendly so I don't want to use anything too harsh.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Dip a cloth in hot water, not too hot, and put it on the wax for a while. It should melt the wax and you can wipe it off.
  • You would have to be very careful with this but how about putting a warm iron on top of a tea towel on top of the wax. This should warm it enough to melt it so it can be wiped away.

Found this suggestion on another forum:

Chill the wax first; scrape it off with an old credit card (I save the ones that come in the mail unsolicited & use them for almost everything that needs scraping). When most of it is removed, let the glass come to room temperature, then place paper towels on top of the residue and heat with a blow dryer. This should clear it up completely.

I think a blow dryer means a hair dryer. (It was an American forum).

glass is usually quite tough, would they usually put a hot mug on the table? place a bit of kitchen paper over the wax and put your coffee/tea there while you dust the rest of the room. if it's a larger area then pour some boiling water into a flat bottomed bowl and use that.

  • A quick blow with a hairdryer and swish with a damp warm cloth will take it off in no time!
