Just a couple of questions?

White viniger? Do I put 50/50 white viniger/water in a used up spray cleaning bottle and clean every whare with it, like floors, bathrooms and work tops, tables.... instead of stardrops or whare do I use the viniger to clean? Trying to be more MSE.

2nd question. The bathroom.in our house is cream with gold coloured fittings. The floor has bathroom lino and is well scrubbed but is showing black in places where most walked on. Does anyone think if I use viniger/water or bleach/water it would gleam?
The hem of the shower/window curtain is showing ware with mold although I do wash theese in the washing machine. Do I soak in something with water? then machine wash? I would use bleach but that may turn my cream curtains white.

Thank you for all help. Julie
If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
Spring begins on 21st March.

  • I would really like to know the answer to the second question as my 'new' vinyl is showing marks where my DH sits with his paper reading for 30 minutes every day! IYKWIM?

Hi Jan, not many answers are there?
Well, I have asked Jeeves instead. I found a site with lots of vinegar tips.
To get a shining finish to vinel or linoleum floor clean with a solution of one cup of white distilled vinegar for every gallon of water.
Same with the curtains clean with the vinegar.
I am going to try it later as my bathroom is behaving badly due to ware and the amount of use it has to deal with.I could replace it all but would rather not as it all matches. Julie

My rather mouldy pale green/turquoise shower curtain (it's the cheapo SmartPrice one that Asda do) has had a good old soak in a mild bleach solution this weekend. I then attacked the hem (where it's weighted to hold it down) and remaining mildew stain with a nail brush before giving it a final warm wash in biological soap powder (only SmartPrice stuff).

The hem is now spotless and there is only very little 'mouldy stain' remaining AND no fading of the colour :j.

I've scrubbed my shower curtain with neat fabric conditioner before and that works reasonably well but doesn't get rid of it all. I shall try some vinegar solution. Does it have to be white or will malt do?-bathroom'll smell like a chippy!!!!

I would soak shower curtain in biological washing powder overnight then wash in machine in bio powder - i do this and my shower curtain comes up lovely and its over 12 years old. i def wouldnt use vinegar on gold plated taps!!!!!!!!!!!!!! havent tried this tip but suspect it would work even tho it sounds odd - rub tap all over with ordinary white toothpaste. rinse well and polish with dry cloth. the reason i think it would work is that I use toothpaste to clean all my jewellery (except pearls) and it works beautifully on some gold plated stuff i have.

It's Kim and Aggie say not to use vinegar on gold taps. I have their book here, i can look stuff up if needs be . As far as i know, it needs to be white vinegar - here is a thread about it

  • I will give the vinyl floor a go with the vinegar and report back.
