DRO's and Experian

Someone applied for a DRO through our office. They met the criteria, but debts were at £14870, so very close. All our applicants are given an Experian form to check their file for free but client chose not to.

DRO was processed, and rejected as Experian showed debt level to be £1550. It came about that there was an error on the report. (O2 had registered that cl owed them for a phone contract when in fact client had returned it during the 14 day period.) 02 admitted it was their error and informed Experian, who amended the file.

We informed the insolvency service who said there is no facility to interfere with the completely automated DRO process and that the cl would have to re apply. Cl lost £90, Insolvency service said cl should seek redress from 02 / Experian.

The warning is this; Check your Experian file as it is automaticaly searched in all cases. If your debt level, previous address or names are not correctly recorded on Experian then your perfectly good application could fail.

The client has re applied and had DRO approved.
