Hi How do you pay overpayments to the Halifax?
Would I set up a standing order through my bank or is there an online facilitie similar to online banking where I can see exactley what is owing rather than waiting for the annual statement?
Thankyou

  • Hi there I also have halifax mortgage and they do have an online facility that you use to check your balance- it seems to take a few days to update and doesnt give detailed information such as daily interest rate that some other online mortgages will show. You need to go onto the halifax website and register and they will send you password etc- very easy. You can make overpayments either over the phone, by going into a branch, by standing order or online (as long as you are using online banking with your bank). I do it online. Basically i phoned halifax and asked them to give me the sort code and account number needed to make overpayments which they provided over the phone. I then registered these details with my bank (bank of ireland) and thats it!
This means that you can log into your bank account at any time and make overpayments on your mortgage of any amount. extremely flexible if you dont want to be commited to a regular standing order. I find it works really well because if we decide not to get a takeaway at the weekend and cook instead i can log on a pay the £20 off the mortgage instead and it is never missed:D

    Hope that helps

    Several options:

    - standing order/ad-hoc BACS/ad-hoc Faster Payments from a non-Halifax/Bank of Scotland account (the receiving sort code and account number details should be on your annual mortgage statement, but if you can't locate them ask in branch or call 08457 27 37 47 for details.

    - internal standing order from a Halifax account, quoting your mortgage roll number (A/xxxxxxxx-x) as the receiving account. If I recall, this can't be set up online so would need to be done in branch or by phone.

    - paying over a branch counter by cash, cheque or transfer from another Halifax/BoS account (they will issue a receipt and may also still have paying in books if you wish to keep a record that way).

    - ad-hoc paymens from a Halifax/BoS account by ringing the appropriate call centre number for that account. Strangely this couldn't be done online when I looked in to it.

You can register yourself for Halifax online banking and add your mortgage as one of your accounts to view. It can be the only account if you have no other accounts with them. If you already manage money online with them log in and go to <my preferences> and <add account> and enter the roll number of the mortgage when prompted. (The sort code and account number can also be found here).

It calculates a balance the following way:

Debt at previous month end + interest that will have accrued during current month - all payments received so far during the current month.

It won't include any ERC or other fees for redeeming the loan.

    Other information available includes:

    - number of months payment holiday left (but no calculation on entitlement to take them if you have a high LTV)

    - a link to apply for additonal funds

    - estimated equity available for additional lending (it calculates to 97% when their existing lending criteria is 80% or 85%)

    - other "permissions" and "tracking" which I have no idea what they relate to.

    Hope this helps.
