RBS ripped me off

Hello. About 6 years ago or so I had to get a loan to pay off my student overdraft for £1800 as i didnt finish the course. The bank sent me a letter to say i needed to sort this out so i went in to my branch. I sat down and got a loan where i thought it looked ok. So about a month later the bank sent me a letter to say that i needed to pay off my overdraft. I scratched my head and phoned them and told them i had already been in and signed for a loan. They said there was no record of it so i went in again. I got a loan but i thought i was paying more this time but i signed it just to close the whole affair down. Then about a month later i got a letter from the bank saying that if i didnt do something about paying off my overdraft the bank would involve the courts which scared me so i went into the bank for a third time and told them this was the third time but they said they had no record. This time the loan i was offered was much more than either of the first two. I was pretty worried so i ended up signing it as i thought i had no choice. Its been paid off now for almost a year but after hearing about the bonuses the bankers have been taking again i feel like id like to screw the bank back. I dont have paper work from the first two attempts but im sure that the bank should. I signed papers and had 3 loans accepted but only the last one seemed to work. I made numerous phone calls and even wrote a letter explaining the story to them but it was like they couldnt grasp what i was telling them and i got bored so i dropped it. I also had that insurance loan guard thing they do. Any thoughts or advice for me?

You would have had paperwork if you had taken out a loan.

You won't be able to screw the bank over; because I think you are making the first 2 loans up....

I'd move on and stop going on about a loan that never existed; banks do not work in the way that you have mentioned; and even if they did; how exactly have they ripped you off?

I don't see that there is much you can do about the two loans you were offered originally if you don't have the paperwork.

It seems like you queried this at the time and they didn't have a record so there is even less chance of there being paperwork available 6 years later.

If you can find the paperwork you received when you signed the original two loans you may be able to pursue something.

Regarding the Payment Protection Insurance - I believe there is a seperate board or thread for this and there is also probably a guide to this on the main site. If you feel you were mis-sold this, you may have a chance at getting that back.
I've got my own flat :j:j

Now I have to pay the bills

And feed my interiors addiction ;)

Actually im not making it up. Ive just pulled apart my room and found what i think is the second attempt. Your lack of faith has just spurred me on. APR on the second one is 7.3 and the final one is 22.0. They said their computer system had no record. Paper record should be kept though. Is there a way to attach a scanned image of both items for anyone to see?

So 6 years ago when this paperwork might have been useful is was nowhere to be found or you couldn't be bothered to look. Now, lo and behold, one quick search and there it is??!!

The bank hasn't ripped you off. 6 years ago was the time to bring this up, not now.
Chalk it down to experience, move on, and don't be so casual and haphazard with paperwork in future.
  • Thanks to some of you for your comments but i think im just need to take it to the bank. See what they say.

No wonder you had to drop out

    Classic...
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands
