Salmon in the kitchen sink

Hey all.
Really hoping someone can help. We have a whole salmon (five and three quarters kgs) to cook for a big bbq tomorrow.
I have heard that you can poach the salmon in the kitchen sink and I would love to try this. Has anyone done this or could give me some directions?
We have a big belfast sink if that helps?

Never done that, but I have heard about people doing it in a dishwasher if you have one. I don't know for how long though.
Sorry, really wasn't much help was I?0 -

I've heard of this being done (though I invested in a fish kettle a while ago)
From memory you curl the salmon into the sink and add water that has just boiled. until the fish is completely submerged. I would add some white wine, bay leaves and pepper corns too.
Leave the fish for at least an hour or until the water is stone cold and remove.0 -

I found this via google. Scroll down to the bottom of the page for basically the same info Haribo has given.

Have ovens gone out of fashion?
Well you can't really poach things in the oven, you need to do it on the hob. And unless you have a fish kettle to put a whole salmon in then it's a bit of a problem;)
I'm not sure it would fit in the oven if you wanted to roast it either.
Another way of cooking a whole salmon without the oven is to barbecue it wrapped in wet newspaper à la Jamie Oliver.0
