Colocynthis sachets (for baby colic)

Colocynthis powders are so much cheaper at my local small chemist (I think it is Vantage) than in Boots. My friend told me about them (you give off a spoon or add to baby's bottle for colic) and she swears by them. I have just got some to try.

I found out the shocking price difference when I popped into Boots to pick some up (nearly £11 for 10 sachets). I didn't bother buying them as I thought - nearly £11 a day - no way! I reported this back to my friend who was amazed and told me to go to our local chemist - £1.80 for 10.

In fact, GPs also prescribe them but my midwife told me only in extreme circumstances as they are expensive. To be honest I don't mind paying £1.80 for 10. I'll try them for a week or two and if I can see any real difference might see GP.

Hope this helps someone!

Yes, will do. As I said my friend swear by these and used them with both kiddies! I have been using Infacol - not sure if it is working though. I find I spill more gripewater that baby drinks:confused:

    The colosynthis is like magic.

However, you can get it in wee jars from a herbalist for about £5. They come with a wee spoon and it's really easy to pop a spoonful in the baby's mouth.

    Brilliant stuff.

    Infacol is rubbish.

I tried colocynthis (in tiny jars) when my DS was a baby and I'm afraid it didn't make any difference. :( But then again, I'm sure it works for some babies, so it's worth a try.

(Don't know how much it costs in jars as MIL got it for me.)

Baby massage is worth a try if you think your baby has got colic. It doesn't cost anything except the oil which is about £1.50 or use some vegetable from your cupboard. Please use vegetable oil and not the stuff from your bounty bags (i.e. Avent or Johnston) as this is mineral oil and the only use for it in my view is oiling your squeaking doors!

The colic routine is basically stroke down the stomach from belly button down with flat hands, hand over hand. Then bring babies knees to chest several times. Next clockwise strokes around the tummy button. The bring knees to chest a few times. Repeat 3 times and do 2 to 3 times a day. It may take upto 2 weeks to work.

If you are interested in classes try asking at your local health centre. We run loads of classes through Sure Start and only charge a nominal fee to cover costs.

    Hi,

Go easy with me, it's my first post, only usually lurk!
I had this recommended to me by a friend and whilst it didn't do my baby any good she (and others) swear by it!

Anyway, I discovered you can order it direct online:
    https://www.freemans.uk.com

It is only about £3 for a "file" and it last ages, spend about £15 I think and postage is free.

The website is a bit strange, you place your order and they call back to take payment, but well worth it they are loads cheaper than Boots!
