Sorry if there is a similar thread, I searched but could only find lots on how to make a sausage casserole, not what to do with it when your DH doesn't like it

Anyway, I made sausage casserole yesterday, mainly for DH and to freeze as I'm not mad into it. It was his idea, then after it was cooked he remembers he doesn't like 'soggy' sausages and will only eat him if they're crispy.:mad::rolleyes: He's not normally at all fussy so not sure where this one comes from, but anyway!

So I now have a huge sausage casserole and no idea what to do with it. Any ideas? I've racked my brains and can't come up with anything.

DH is suggesting feeding it to the cat but I really don't want to do this!

Edited to add it was made with apples and onions

Um, make it into pasties? Put a savoury scone topping on it?Add a savoury crumble topping and cheese?
Dunno really, whatever you do the sausages will still be 'soggy'
If I make sausage casserole I always grill the sausages first so they are brown and crispy, not much help now I know!!
Go hopefully into each new day, enjoy something from every day no matter how small, you never know when it will be your last

Make it into sausage pies. I don't like soggy food either, but it's ok if it's clapped between two slices of pastry and then served without any added gravy. If you chop the sausages up smallish, you probably won't even have to tell him it's the sausage he didn't want....

Yep I should definitely have grilled the sausages! Will do it next time.

Pies, pasties or savoury crumble with cheese all sound good options - any tips on how to do these?

How about liquidising a cupful and seeing if it makes a nice broth? Delicious when dipped with buttered crusty bread.

I like the idea of blitzing it into a soup/broth - waste not/want not! Could try it with maybe about half a pint (mug full) to see how it works out first :).

COuld you make some mash potato, top with mashed potatoes, sliced tomatoes and cheese and crisp it all up? Alternatively (i dont know how good an idea this is, but try grilling a small bit of sausage (or doing in oven) to see how it goes and if you can then serve the casserole juice as a gravy, served in a moat of mashed potatoes :) If you try it it might crips them up?

Here's a list of savoury crumble recipes

Let us know how you get on. I'm sure you can manage to salvage something.

Pies, you could just get some pastry, cutout some squares, put in some casserole and what ever else (not nedded though), fold over and glaze with egg around the edges to make sure it all sticks.

Here's a thread on plate pies and recipes for home made pasties
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men
