Emma - reading my post again - it seems that I misinterpreted the CML aim.

It is NOT their aim - to be "THE central provider of economic, statistical, legal, research and other market information".

It IS their aim "to help to foster a favourable operating environment" i.e. for Mortgage Lenders to operate.

They say they ARE ALREADY "the central provider of economic, statistical, legal, research and other market information".

"Our aim is to help to foster a favourable operating environment in the UK housing and mortgage markets. We are the representative voice for the residential mortgage lending industry, and the central provider of economic, statistical, legal, research and other market information."

Emma - they are a "trade association" and accountability is hardly anything other than "Lip service" i.e. purely a matter of Public Relations.

Yes I agree. FSA/Treasury/FOS too. Still a long way to go. Maybe it is still evolving...maybe its a 'watch this space'...lets hope this site and others like it are still here in the year 3000...and consumers can look back in awe!
