Storing stewed blackberries?

Hi, I picked almost 7 pounds of blackberries but can't store them in the fridge or freezer as I have no room and don't necessarily want to make them all into jam/jelly.
I was wondering if I stewed them all with some water until soft could I then store them in glass containers or would this not work as I haven't added any sugar?
Do you think I would be better off just making them all into jam? Is there anything else I could do with them? I considered blackberry wine but it looks very complicated from what I've seen online and seems to require lots of equipment. Any advice will be greatly appreciated, thanks x

They will go off almost instantly if you just stew them. Fresh blackberries do not last long and cooking will make little difference. Adding sugar won't help unless you use so much that you end up with jam.
Jam or jelly is your best option;)
You could make blackberry gin or vodka. I do this with damsons and quinces. But you have rather a lot of blackberries and you'll probably need 7 bottles of gin:rotfl: (I use 1 lb fruit per bottle).
What about blackberry chutney?0 -
How long were you tinking of storing them in glass jars for? Without sugar they'll only last a few days before they start fermenting.
You could make some chutney as well as jam. There's a recipe on the Good Food site for Spiced Blackberry Chutney.
Another idea is fruit leathers. They're like those fruity wind-ups things you get in the childrens breakfast cereals sections of the supermarkets.0 -

Ooh that's a good idea -I was going to make those but you need a very low oven on for a very long time and my oven won't allow me to do that.
Recipe for apple and blackberry leather. You could replace the apple with more blackberries.0 -
Thanks for all your help, think I will have another go at jam later on then. My first attempt is a bit hard! You can get it our of the jar but its not very spreadable
, guess I boiled it for too long. Does anybody know a recipe that uses less than equal quantities of sugar as I found it very sweet really. Thanks again :T will check out that chutney recipe too in a mo. x
