Overpayment tax credits bankruptcy????

My question is this. I was overpaid on my tax credits from April to July as I was paid full entitlement of childcare costs but after the reassessment it went down so I now owe them just over £1k

My husband and I are now totally dependant on benefits after my husband lost his job. We now have to file for bankruptcy as he is struggling to find work and our debts are unmanageable. My husband has downsized his car and we have a lump sum of money to hand over the receiver once we go br. Can we pay the tax credit overpayment out of the lump sum before we hand it over? I'm really worried as we are just about making ends meet & I don't know how we are going to afford to repay it otherwise :o((((
