Ask youself the question, is greed or envy better?

    Greed makes money, envy doesnt.

Actually envy makes money for someone else , keeping up with the jones means new cars , clothes , houses holidays and of course iva's and bancruptcy a year later you can do it all again?
Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Tax credits only exist because despite the minimum wage, people are not paid enough to live on.
That's absolutely true, now ask yourself this, is the level of TC's keeping up the living quality of many people?
If it is, what will happen when they are withdrawn or lowered?

People will not be able to afford the level of living they have now/rents/mortgages/lots of stuff.

And they've become used to it. we certainly do live in interesting times.

What do you mean? I read it in the Daily Mail - that usually means it's true doesn't it?

    Ahh, but it's true :D
People have been too scared to claim, I've seen them on the telly :p. I also know that about half the people I've spoken to about their tax credits (friends and that) have been overpaid, us included.
We got overpaid, so fast, before we knew it we owed them £2500, that was 4 years ago, we still owe them £500, it's been a bit of a nightmare tbh. Luckily we aren't that badly off for money, but if we were different people, we could have been in trouble.

    I know a girl who gets tax credits - she works 24 hours a week and earns £8 per hour - has 2 children 7 & 4.

She brings home about £730 a month wages. Her outgoing are about £635 - before food etc, but after bills.

She has a council house - pays £425 per month rent - £95 pm single person council tax + gas and electric - phone bill - say £70 pm. Travelling expenses - a weekly bus pass £11 per week - so about £45 pm. She doesn't have Sky - she has a £15 freeview box from Asda. She gets around £85 per week tax credits - made up of £58 per week child tax credits and £27 per week WTC. She also has child benefit.

She told me her wages basically keep a roof over their heads and pay the bills and they live on the tax credits.

If tax credits are withdrawn she will go on to income support - which will actually cost the gov't more.

Current cost to gov't £370 per month

Income support cost - £520 (rent and council tax) £250 (child tax credit)
    £275 (income support payment) = £1045
