Yum yum I can see a book in that. How to live on 20p a day with roadkill!!!
    Does badger taste like chicken??!

I definately think say 2/3rds veggie is the way to go, along with shopping to pick up the bargains in the reduced section. Does mean shopping at odd times but it will be worth it to stretch your money futher.
I don't find Farmfoods that cheap TBH, plus its mostly processed so not something I'd normally buy.
Lentils can add protein and bulk out meals such as spag bol and cottage pie.

I second the suggestion of listing meals that you are likely to cook and we'll see if we can suggest ways of making them stretch or substituting different ingredients.

Hope your OH finds a job soon. It does nark me when people say Recession? What Recession? just because it hasn't affected them personally. My old place of work (solicitors) have just put the whole firm on a 4 day week (and one department on 3 day week). Sorry rant over ;)
