I just wanted to see if people felt that £44 per month on travel expenses and £40 a month on meals at work seemed reasonable?
I can't really see how I can get that any lower as its allowing me to spend £2 a day for lunch which is normally something from Gregg's and a snicker as a snack and thats all.

Personally speaking here
I would NEVER buy stuff for work unless Ive been so disorganised that I have to.
Is a pasty and a chocolate bar really sufficient for your lunch Id be starving if I had only that?!!
We buy all our lunch food ( unless we are disorganised for a day or we know we have to go for a staff team lunch type thing) in with our shopping budget. We will definately spend less than a tenner between us a week. We have nice food at work ( leftovers, lovely baguettes/ rolls homemade soup etc)
I cant bring myself to buy lunch anymore its so expensive for what it is
( ie sometimes rubbish/cold/greasy etc)
Your transport costs what it costs. I think £85 a month is a lot for my travelcard but frankly I cant get it cheaper try as I might. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
I suppose it depends on whether you can actually travel any cheaper and whether the travel is necessary (as in can you share lifts or buy bus pass or walk?)
If you need to get to work to earn money to pay debts... then it counts as very reasonable.
As far as meals at work goes. I take a packed lunch which includes sandwich, yoghurt and piece of fruit. It costs me less than a pound per day. We are aiming for spend of £120 for two a month. Many on here do way better than that - but I'm a newbie!
Good luck with it.

What kind of place do you work? Is there a fridge to keep things and/or a microwave to warm things up. There are lots of nice things that don't need either of these but being able to cool/heat things increases your choices!
Perhaps you could start by taking lunch 3 days a week and buy it the other 2, get used to it gradually. I know one or two people on here take lunch from home monday - thursday and buy something as a treat on a friday.
It all depends on how much you want to cut down really.
For me, greggs and chocolate wouldn't be enough (and would make me feel a bit ill) - just think of all the lovely healthy and filling things you could bring from home!! Try the Old Style Board for info on soups etc that can easily be frozen in daily portions (and are nice cold).Don't stress, relax, let life roll off your backs. Except for death and paying taxes, everything in life is only for now... Avenue QOfficial DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 003Proud to have become debt free... and striving to keep it that way

Thanks for the advice the travel is the lowest I can get it, thats for one months bus travel which I'm using 7 days a week right now and will be for most months as I have two jobs. I guess with lunch a pack lunch is a good idea and could save me more as I contribute money to the shopping within my rent money.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 0650

Even better - would make lunch a real bargain. Plus, way healthier (depending what you bring!)
I really like the idea of introducing it 3 days a week to start - less pressure and you're more likely to stick to it.
Good luck.Proud to be Dealing with my Debts0
