Hi all
I was wondering if any of you have started doing your own alterations and clothing repairs.
Last night I decided to take the waist band in on two pairs of lightweight jeans that were too big. I cut the waistband at the front pockets and sewed a double seam for strength. I wasn't easy but you would have to look hard to see the join and I did it by hand. I will give you a couple of tips though. After the first Southern Comfort, use a thimble. After the second Southern Comfort, sewing black on black makes your eyes cross. Don't let the dog sniff the needle. I feel dead chuffed that I did it though. And I don't have to buy any new jeans to take on holiday in a couple of weeks' time.:T

Well done! True O/S MSE!!
I do my own repairs and alterations but generally lack motivation so it takes a while!!! I wouldn't try anything quite this ambitious though, generally just, hems, buttons, side seams etc so I'm very impressed!0 -

Have you any tips for letting out waistbands -that would be really useful to me:rotfl:
A sewing repair I have to perform regularly is taking in my dd's waistbands (she's like a fairychild). Usually this just requires unpicking the casing, pulling out the elastic and folding it over to make it tighter.0
