Sewing clothes for kids from old clothes

My daughters used to have dresses such as this:

We loved these dresses, they were £25 from Next when new,and were in such good condition when the kids grew out of them we were able to give them as presents for our friends young children.
We have loads of the kids old clothes in bags waiting to go to the charity shop.
Before they go I was thinking of pulling out a few pairs of jeans and cords etc (Colour co-ordinated of course) and making a dress for them such as the one above.
Can anyone advise where I can get a cheap pattern to draw around when I have sewn the patches together.

Magazines such as Prima have good patterns in them you could use. Also there is a website sewdirect.com which sells patterns like Butterick for reduced prices. Happy sewing!0
