Goodbye Curleys!

Curleys, for the unaware, was a large independent retailer based in West Belfast. The flagship Curleys in Kennedy Centre West Belfast has been bought over by Sainsburys. Curleys closes this week, perhaps even today and the new Sainsburys opens next week. Curleys was always regarded fondly by the shopping public in West Belfast, and elsewhere, and the majority of the community will be sad to see it go. Curleys offered competitive prices for the local population, I am sure there are better qualified people to give the history of the store but I think it is a bit sad to see a local retailer be bought over. Not sure how Sainsburys will adjust to the local population but I hope the West will be served by a store offering good prices and good quality.

Goodbye Curleys.

There was a half price sale on intore yesterday and when everything was gone it was closing. I called in around 12.00 noon and the shelves were empty so I would think it is probably closed.

There is also one in Dungannon but not sure whether it is remaining open. I think the off-licences are staying open as Curley's.

I think it was a case of Curley's closing, they still own the land, so it wasn't really a take/buy over. The new Sainsburys store is huge and great quality at fair prices is what Sainsburys aim for. It should be a welcome addition to the West of the city

A friend of mine used to buy Miracle Whip in Dunnes at the Park Centre, she got some for me, that was quite a while ago though. Might be worth a look?

    HTH
  • Have to say I miss Curleys, went up to the Kennedy centre a few times to stock up, their meat sales were fantastic. The Sainsburys in the Oaks centre Dungannon is pretty rubbish. Very little variety, short dated and most of the time overpriced
