Can you use one of these services if you are on benefits?
I've looked on the cccs website and it doesn't make it very clear.
My finances have got a bit out of control since my husband left just over 2 years ago and I have about £7000 worth of debt (a egg loan, credit cards and store cards). I am just about making ends meet each week but I know it's only a matter of time before the poo hits the fan

I don't tghink they do, at least they didn't with us as not enough spare income. I hope i'm wrong, but if I'm not you can still negotiate with companies yourself.Barclaycard 3800

You can use the CCCS if you are on benefits. I have two friends who have large debts (35.000) and are both on disability benefits. They both have DMP's with CCCS. I think when you have your telephone interview the sticking point on wether they can help you is wether you actually have enough money spare to make payments. Give CCCS a ring..0

Thanks everyone.
My freind is going through some pretty heavy stuff at the moment due to unpaid council tax and her finances are in a total mess. It's been a big wake up call for me, and I realise I have to do something or I am going to end up in the same kind of mess.
I just haven't got the foggiest where to start0 -

Have you done an SOA yet? They can be most enlightening and really helped me get ship-shape.

I have a DMP with payplan, although i was with my partner and we were both working when we first went with payplan, i am now single and on benefits. As far as i am aware its doesnt matter if you are working or on benefits its a question of how much you owe against how much you have coming in.
Hope this was of some help0 -
Depending on what benefits you're receiving, do you have any payment protection insurance with any of these loans or cc's?Donedoingdebt Lightbulb moment January 2000. Debt at highest approx £102,000. Debt now (October 2009 - absolutely fork all!!!)

I haven't done a SOA yet, to be honest I'm a bit scared too. I know that's me just burying my head in the sand but I think I will totally freak out when I see just how much of a mess I am in!
I don't have payment protection on any of my cc or the loan, I did manage to pay off a lump sum from my loan earlier this year which considerably reduced the monthly payments which was a big help, but the interest rate on my Halifax cc has just jumped from 14.9% to 18.9% (I have no idea why) so that has bumped my payments up on that card.Get this sorted 1st as it's a priority debt so is rent arrears if you have any!
Thankfully rent and cc is the one area I have no problems with. When my husband left he had already paid the rent/cc for that month and my benefits kicked in before I ran up any arrears. The problem I have is with debt that I had before he left and because I have been robbing peter to pay paul for so long.0
