Hi all (first time user here!)

Can anyone give me some advice about delcaring yourself BR. This is something that I think I may have to look at, messy divorce, husband trying to get money from me that I don't have, both in huge amount of debt and at the moment just can't see any light.

There is no equity in our home, but although my husband has stopped paying the mortgage , I am still paying it, if i get made BR will i def loose my home??????

I am very confused with it it all.........

  • HEY Welcome ,first take a deep breath there are plenty of people on here who will give you some good advice and support.
I would sugest you speak to your local citizen advice or phone national debt line.
I personally found national debt line very helpful, there number is 08088084000
there open 9-9,just keep trying to get through it took me 20 mins and that was at 9 in morning.
In the mean time I would suggest filling in an online statement of affairs,so we can review you outgoing etc ,below is the link

If there's no equity and you can afford the mortgage it's unlikely you'll lose the house.

Hi and welcome sunnylooloo. You are unlikely to lose your house through BR. I would advise though a clean break from ex though. Be sure to get all your joint finances etc sorted in your divorce. You don't want anything coming back to bite you later.

    Hi Looloo

Welcome & well done for you first post....the important thing is to talk about your situation.

Call one of the debt charities & get advice & that has to be your first port of call.

The main thing is that you are starting to deal with your situation.

Thanks so much every one for the advice and numbers.

you do get to the point that you think..... Arrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh

I have already had a quick word with my solicitor but will go into more details with her when I meet up with her.

It seems quite ridiculous that both my husband and I are both in debt yet he is still trying to get loads of money out of me. I will obv have to wait until the divorce is finalised - hopefully in the next month or so and then I will have to decided where I go from there.

I find the forum so helpful as it is good to know you are not the only one out there and it is great that everyone is so helpful and thank you so much again for all the numbers etc.... I think I;ll be here a while so no doubt will be picking your brains agains!

Sunny welcome, as suggested by everyone seek professional advice. Another website/forum I found helpful initially was debtdivas.co.uk
