Afternoon everyone!
Been a lurker on this board for a while now, and have decided to join also, see if I can do as brilliantly as you all do!
Its inspiring reading the various diaries on here and in my aspiration to become debt free I have decided that perhaps a diary is just the way to go?!
I work full time as well as studying two evenings a week. Am still on training wages at the moment so as you can imagine- things are a little tight on the old financial front!
In the house its just me, the fiance and the 2 cats.
My aim of this diary is basically to try to keep my on the straight and narrow :A and to try to save money and make money where possible. :T So just the usual really!
Hope you will all give me some support, hints and tips along the way. Its about time I tackled my debts but I fear its gonna be a long and winding road ahead!
Will post my SOA or debts/whatever a bit later on! Building up to it at the moment.
Look forward to getting started - any tips for me to get me on the ladder?
Firstly I think I am going to go and get a to-do list sorted for tomorrow.
Back soon with plans & I look forward meeting you all!

Just a quickie to say hello and welcome. The main advice I would give just now, is to read as many diaries on here as you can to get loads of good advice and inspiration. You are right though, having a diary definitely helps. Also post up your SoA for lots of help with that.
Good luck. I'm off to subscribe to you lovely new diary now!

So I've been doing some thinking and aswell as getting out of debt I also want to make some other changes. Simple things that dont cost much money. Things like, decluttering the house (BIG job-- this one will take a while) and making some home improvements. These are things I've been putting off and off again and again. Thinking back, my debt is partially connected to this - along with many other things! Feeling bogged down or stressed so I'd go out and spend. Time to finally deal with these issues instead of running away from them or ignoring them and hoping they'll go away when actually they just get much worse!
So next for the To-Do list for tomorrow.... Friday - YAY! :beer:ake
- Make a packed lunch to take to work. Must not keep buying expensive packaged sandwiches that don't even taste nice!
- Shop for only kitchen foil and kitchen paper. Don't do the usual and go to the supermarket for a couple of things and come out with a trolley full!
- Go to mums for dinner. Saves using food in our cupboard and she's kind enough to have us!
So not much on there but its a start!0 -
So. The downlow on the to-do list for today.
- Make a packed lunch to take to work. Must not keep buying expensive packaged sandwiches that don't even taste nice! Done. Very Proactive this morning!!
- Shop for only kitchen foil and kitchen paper. Don't do the usual and go to the supermarket for a couple of things and come out with a trolley full! Done, but also got cat litter as realised last night it ran out! Still very pleased with myself.
- Go to mums for dinner. Saves using food in our cupboard. All sorted and planned!
Also done some other things not on my list......- Washed towels and put them in the dryer (not the most economical way to dry them I know but the garden is a complete TIP and there's no way we could have a line in there, and I couldn't dry them in the house as we have no radiator to generate heat at the moment as its not working. Joy of joys!!)
- Took out Boiler Cover to get ours fixed and working! This was thought about long and hard and we decided it was the best way to go at this particular time for us. Another expense but a worthwhile one. IF they can fix it that is, cos if they can't they wont cover us! But we'll find that out soon enough.

Arrghhhh a BUMP in the road.
So didn't have breakfast this morning too much of a mad rush!
Which meansss.................
Its only 11am and Im starving! Dont know how I am going to just survive on a sandwich and a muller light (which i am THIS close to eating by the way!!) untill 630pm tonight.....(big appetite)
Thinking I may have to pop in somewhere for extra food in my lunch - if I succumb and eat my sandwich now! The dilemma.............
Lets hope I can hold it out :rolleyes:0 -
Hi MagicalStar,
I am a newbie too, although i started trying to cut back and make savings before my wedding this year. We are both 26 year old newly-weds and i've yet to make some budget saving buddies on here!
Read my debt diary "Newly weds: J_pink's debt diary" which i posted today for some good tips on how we've already saved £500 in spending each month!
What were your biggest expenses Magicalstar?
Have you got a budget in mind for your wedding day?
I managed to get maried for £7,000 and it truly was the big white wedding. If you need any tips please get in touch!

Hi! Thanks for reading my little diary. I just took a look at your diary. Think I will go to subscribe to it now!
On the note of lunch....................................its confession time.
 Not been sooo good. Bought a subway - £5 down the drain.
This is not the best start!! Must learn from this and in future EAT BREAKFAST so I dont eat my lunch before lunchtime.
I would usually go home for my lunch and make something but had lots of errands to run today so this just wasnt do-able.Still didnt get to my bank to pay in some money so that means one day next week will have to be rushing around again to do this! Well..cant be helped!
Oh well - got to try and learn and move on from that now I suppose. Lets hope the rest of the day is a little more productive.0 -
oooooooh I forgot to answer your questions J_Pink.
Biggest expenses - probably food!!!
And about the wedding. We're planning on a loooonnng engagement- we're in no rush!
Going to hopefully start saving up for it though and have it in a few years - just so much i want to do first!
Top prioritys first are home improvements and debt-freedom going hand-in-hand with financial security!0 -
Don't beat yourself up over your Subway, it's done and you have recognised what you need to do so that's the main thing.0
-
Thanks! Felt so useless after buying it that i didnt even really enjoy it - too much guilt!0
