I would work to your own timetable and forget about the repossession as it could take months (forget about what they told you - although it would be in your interest for them to repo soonest). Go and see some lettings agents and be truthful with them so you can guage how much deposit you'll need. Also, if you are honest with them you won't be wasting your money on their credit check if there is no hope in H*ll of you being accepted for any of their properties.

Have a look at private lets - they usually don't do so much credit checking.

Hi Blue! You're having a tough time just now poor soul. It wasn't so long ago I was desperate to find somewhere to rent with no hope as I couldn't get a guarantor. I found my private rental on www.gumtree.com be a good place to keep your daily eye on.

Can I just say to you that I can't remember reading that you've spoken to any professional body about going bankrupt. The reason i'm saying is a judge won't grant you bankrupt if you havn't spoken to the professionals. The good news is there's many free charity's out there like national debtline and CAB, helpful people on here have them in their signatures. I just don't want you to lose your bankruptcy fee money and still not be declared bankrupt.

This process is horrid let alone going through a breakup. I feel for you, I really do. I hope as time is going on the hurt is subsiding and you're strong. Things are tough right now, the toughest but this will all be sorted and soon. Stay strong, stay with us, keep posting, we can be your rock. You'll be absolutely fine soon, you'll get a fresh start and start a new life, happier life. Stay strong x

for my two pennorth...and experience.....I'd start looking for a place to rent first...get settled in, but take your time....use the present house whilst doing so, as moving and sorting can be very stressful...plus.....if you have steady employment, that goes a long way with agents when renting [at least, it does round here].....and....you will not at that time be BR....I had no probs, and I had defaults coming out of my ears....

don't forget to tell the LA and sort council tax out.

    Then go BR!

In the end, to start afresh you need to start somewhere fresh!

but, in the end, moving first, or BR first is personal choice.....see what's out there, then decide.
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......

Have you contacted the debt charities?

Not since I got the latest bit of news, am going to make another appointment now the situation has changed. They were really helpful last time, just need to get out of this tearful mindset....

Well if my luck is anything to go by, it would take forever to get repo'd, cos never seem to have any luck these days.

I will go around to the lettings places this weekend to see where I stand cos my problem is I cant afford 6 months rent in advance nor do I have access to a guarantor, so would have to hope to find a private let.... cos as you say I dont want to be paying fees to get knocked back...

Thanks MicheH, such kind words :A

Thanks for the website, will look there. Am going to talk to Shelter about my options, even though I think am clear on what they are, there seems to be a definite 2 paths to this....

I haven't taken professional advice since my situation changed with my OH going etc, that is one of the next things on my list...

Trouble is I just dont seem to have enough strong days at the moment to be able to face it without breaking down, am so fed up of crying! All I want is to be happy, but that seems to much to ask

Sorry for being so maudling

Thanks alastair, good advice, I am lucky I am a civil servant so for the time being am relatively secure, although if the Government go ahead with these cuts.... I have defaults right now so am sure wouldnt pass a credit check!

Have got the reduced council tax through today so that was a welcome saving, cos am def going to be borderline being able to survive each month until decisions are made.

Starting afresh sounds so appealing but so far away at this time...
