Getting a current account post bankruptcy

Hi all,
I went down to Barclays to change my cash card account into a current account and showed them all the details they had asked for (Early discharge notice etc) and the guy scuttled off for a minute. When He returned he informed me that they can't turn it into a current account for 6 years?!
Is it a case of closing this account and opening a normal current account elsewhere? Im not fussed about an overdraft but a cheque book can be handy!
Cheers all,
Emby

Most current accounts are credit checked....so while the bankruptcy shows on file it'll be hard for 6yrs....co op said the same to me..they'd be happy to upgrade but when I came to asking over 2yrs later.."sorry you cant till 6yrs"
although....Natwest gave me a full current account no questions asked...weird!We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0 -
I think things are slowly changing - give NatWest a try - they accepted phil afterall!

Natwest, Cool, Thanks
Has anyone else found any others who have given current accounts shortly after discharge? Or is it just a case of any of them might depending on the credit check they come back with.
The fact is Barclays didn't even run a credit check on me to see if I was borderline ok, just a point blank no.
I get the feeling im really going to realise the full effects of the bankruptcy over the next few months as I try to bring some normality back!

thing to remember though....what one may get isnt a guarantee someone else will..and dont try too many banks at once the searches will show on your credit files possibly putting a bank offWe all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0
