The deed is done!

Well that's it! As of 10:30am today I was declared bankrupt.

Was all pretty strange really, arrived at the court at about 8:15am, saw the clerk at 8:30 and she went through my paperwork and amended anything that she didn't think was right. Paid my money and was sent away until 10:30am. Was told not to leave the building incase the judge wanted to speak to me but if not I was just to go back to and see the clerk at 10:30 to pick up my BR number. No tannoy announcement for me so at 10:30 I wandered back to the clerk and was met with "As of now you are bankrupt sweetheart, this is the number you need to give any creditors that are chasing you. The official receiver will call you in the next few days but as it's a bank holiday it'll probably be next week, hope the rest of your day is better than this, take care and best of luck!"

What a lovely woman :)

Just the OR bit to get through now but the sense of relief from this point is indescribable. At last I can actually start answering my phone rather than having to try and screen my calls all the time :j

  • hi from somebody who went through what you did todaymine was 4 years ago i remember mine like yesterday expect a letter in next few days from the official reciever stating a time and date for an interview most liekly it will be over the phone interview over the phone with the official all i would say is be honest open and answer all questions fully be on your own when he or she calls remember your court number its your unique refernce not only for today but whenever you need to contact the o.r office the telephone meeting or face to face mmeting may last a hour to several depending on your circumstances after the call remeber theier will be lots of post from them my advice is answer it all fully and return it asap any assets you had pre to today are gone minus the clothes on your back and personal belongings and thouse of your family i.e kids toys clothes household items i.e appliances are unaffected by yoour bankruptcy order your car maybe if under a certain age but the O.R will discuss this during the interview as for bank accounts you ll need ro get a new one set up asap wages to be paid into etc etc i found abbey national a good start when undischarged they will give you a cash card only account that allows direct debits and standing orders but nothing else then after bankruptcy discharge has been granted by the O.R natwest will give you a debit card account with a solo card only i hope this advice helps you trat todays as a new begining a life experince ok
