Another little gem, when thinking of moving house and looking up various auto-censored forums, it took me a while to work out why "S!!!!horpe" rarely got a mention..."She who asks is a fool once. She who never asks is a fool forever"

I gather that back in the early days of t'internet, AOL managed to block that entire town from signing up ...
(one quick google later:) Ooh, Wikipedia has an entire article on the "S!!!!horpe Problem" !
Edit: this even blocked the URL; I had to get creative! lol.0 -
In about 1998 I was working for a company with a major office in S!!!!horpe, and my team were looking at detecting 'inappropriate' Internet use on our network. It became obvious pretty quickly that S!!!!horpe needed to be on our 'ignore' list.
I had no idea this phenomenon was known as the "S!!!!horpe Problem" though - I presumed there must be lots of names/places with similar properties. But I think that wiki entry might be a good item for the Profanity of the Day site! (Note: DON'T click that link if you dislike strong language - the clue is in the title.)0 -
I used to post quite a lot on one of the big Mum&baby sites - they had a censor bot on the forums - there was quite a list of words you had to alter to avoid your post being starred out - can't recall them all, but 'carseat' was one of them, and I seem to recall there was at least one big baby brand name that wouldn't pass the censor.DFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0

Ah yes, Cialis - the "height" (or should that be "length"?) of human medical technology
(Sorry, but I get annoyed when I think of how much money has been wasted on developing Viagra and Cialis that could have been used to find treatments and cures for other, and to my mind, real, illnesses.)0 -
Reminds me of when I worked in an analytical chemistry lab many many years ago. Everything was abbreviated to...

But the profits from these drugs can be used to fund treatments and cures for other, "real illnesses". Although I would guess this makes a massive difference to many men out there so who are we to make that decision.
Anyway, that's a whole other thread!
