Hello everyone.
I read the Heavyhearts story and went and registered in order to offer a piece of advice!
THIS IS NOT RECCOMMENDED FOR EVERYONE - but, to avoid missing minimum repayments and damaging credit score, getting bailiffs involved etc., here is a little trick that I have used before when I have encountered (ahem) a 'cash flow problem'.
Open a paypal account / online gambling account (do not use for gambling!) etc. (anything that allows you to transfer money in from a credit card). Transfer more than the minimum payment amount from your credit card to this online account. Then, transfer back to the credit card a few days later. The credit card sees this as a 'payment' and hence the credit card has paid its own minimum payment.
If you are worried they may cotton on, transfer it to your bank account and then pay it onto your credit card.
In addition, this can be used on a 0% purchases card (as it is technically a purchase) and hence you can use this as an interest free loan. .
BEWARE - you have to have contingencies in place (switching to a 0% Balance transfer card) if using this as an interest free loan as after 9 months the interest usually sky rockets to something ridiculous and you end up paying 94 times (:D) what you borrowed.
Obviously this trick will not reduce your debt at all as you have not paid anything off, and it will INCREASE due to the interest charged.
I am in bucket loads of debt(why did I go to uni  ) + just bought my first house as well so I am in even more now. I have used the above for example a while ago when I was 'between jobs' but it is by no means a long term solution.
I hope this helps some people with there cash flow but whatever you do, dont take Carol Vordermans advice and get a secured loan!

I think that the moderator should delete this thread! I am very sad for HeavyHeart and if she returns to this forum I hope she will get help from the doctor and the charity National Debtline. BUT I have been thinking about some of the harsher criticisms and the ensuing debate...some of the comments could tip a person in a fragile state over the edge.0

Hi HH. Hope you're still OK.
I do money advice for CAB, and your case is by no means hopeless. You have equity in the house that you live in. You say you don't mind too much where you live, as long as it's bug free and has a roof, and are prepared to rent. You do, therefore, have options; possibly more than you realise.
Look at the Citizens Advice web site. We're trained to be non-judgmental, and explain all your options to you, not tell you what to do. You'll probably find that the adviser (who you can contact in person, phone or e-mail) will be sympathetic, and will have seen people in worse predicaments than yours. They'll help you to talk through what you want to do, and will give you time to consider. They can also negotiate with creditors on your behalf. They can even set up a meeting with a solicitor, possibly for a free first session.
Many of my clients walk in in tears and leave with a weight lifted, as they can see a way forward.
Take care, and let us know how you're getting on.

I'm with sophistica on this.
HH was clearly in a fragile state, and I fear that some of the (to me) inexplicably harsh comments could at the very least make her feel despairingly miserable.
Can the moderator delete half a thread? The 'blame or not' discussion is now catered for on another thread.0 -

Hi
I haven't read all the posts, so I don't know if anyone has suggested this, but if rent is so high in your area why not rent out a room? You could get £250 a month more cash without the expense of moving. Or rent out your flat and find a cheaper rented place nearer OH's work so he gets home earlier, and saves money on commuting?
Hope that helps, hugs from me too! What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?0 -
i've read the entire thread. and I have to say that its such a pity that because a minority of people either don't bother to read the entire thing, or because they are mean spirited that they feel the need to post negative comments. Its posts like these that scare people away and the OP hasn't posted in quite a while which is worrying. I don't care that we don't know "the other side of the story" I don't care that we don't know the parent's side - that doesn't matter, it's Jen that has posted and it is her that has asked for help and support, its up to us to help her and give her advice to see this through to a happy ending. She's obviously in a bad way and very depressed at the moment, I just can't believe how nasty people can be. Basically if you see that someone is in a bad why - why go out of your way to post something to make them feel worse? just don't bother posting. We all make mistakes and it just so happens that the people who ask for help on this board have made mistakes with their money, the very fact that they post here shows that they know that and it shows that they want to do something about it.
I really hope that Jen is looking at this thread and I hope that she feels that she can come back and let everyone know she is alright - I truly hope that she is fine and well.
To those who have posted negative comments - before you do in the future I suggest you take a step back and think about what your comments could do to people, its nothing short of bullying.DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY

Hi Jen
Have not been about for a while and cannot believe how this thread has turned out!!
I personally think it is horrendous that someone comes on here for desperate help and the odd few find it ok to make such negative comments they have obviously not read all the thread
If you are reading this please come back and let us know how you are, the majority of us are worried about you!!

What a shame such kind people get kicked in the teeth by parents!
Firstly you should go to your local CAB and make an appointment with a money adviser, who will help you sort out all your debts, deal with the companies on your behalf and generally just 'take it all of your shoulders'.
Secondly, if you had to sell the flat your in-laws are in the local council are duty bound to rehouse them because they are pensioners, and would it be cruel to think it could be a horrid little reitrement bunglalow that they would hate???????
Seriously though, you must find the strengh and put yourselves first. I am sure you can sell the flat no problem.
Also most CABs have solicitors that come in for a few hours either saturdays or an evening and give advice for free, if it would make you feel better, get an appointment and then you will know that you can sell the house and get yourselves straight.
