All over at midnight.

I've no-one else that I can really share this with as others just don't understand, but I will be discharged from BR tonight at midnight.

I can't believe that it will all be over. In April 08' I knew I was knee deep in poop when the credit ran out. So many questions of what to do, IVA rejected etc. Eventually BR was suggested by a professional. I thought it absurd that I should go BR over a £12,500 debt (ex hubby's was £15k). But I also didn't have a life. 2 very young babies and so much time spent away from home working (I'm long-haul air crew) just to pay the bare minimum.

Now a year on my life is so much better. I am a part-time working single mum with no debts and could not be happier. I'm actually crying as I type this.

To the outside world my BR seems easy. No interview, no NIL tax code, no IPA, kept mortgaged home and car, bank account, Sky TV, mobile phone contract, gym membership etc.........
But inside I felt I was cracking up. It has been a year of nothing but stress and heartache as I worried about every single little thing. Would I get in trouble for this? Will I get in trouble for that? No-one will ever understand the stress unless they walk a day in a BRs shoes.

But I survived and have emerged a much better person. I have survived without credit for 16 months and still never want it again.....ever!
My house is looking lovely, all clutter free thanks to selling just about everything on ebay to pay for things we need. Even my cellar and attic have been stripped. I feel on top of things at last. Still no savings account and I still have a small budget to live on, but would not change it for the world.

I've got back into my art and have started selling on ebay to top up income and life could not be better. Expensive weekend outings to theme parks etc have now been replaced with our new found hobby of hiking and camping.

The future feels bright at last. Roll on midnight, I've started on the wine already!

I love a happy ending - and sounds like you deserve it!
Good luck with your new future.
  • I just wanted to say well done.

You have clearly worked hard and have come out the otherside.

I know alot of people that have gone BR will see your message as an inspiration.

    Congratulations :T
  • Well done to you  x x
I have my BR date at court next wed 2nd.......I'm very nervous, as I keep thinking the judge will say no! I hope I've completed the forms correctly??

Very best wishes to you and your family for the future x
  • Congratulations! It's great to see people who get good advice and feel that they have made the right decision for themselves. I also know people who have gone bankrupt, and as you say, it's easy to look from the outside in and see it as an easy option.

Best of luck to you and your children for the future too

I found your post really touching and inspirational.

It just goes to show that the more simple, basic means of everyday life can make you just as happy and content as any other way of getting by.

Well done on your new life:)

There used to be a street named after Chuck Norris, but it was changed because nobody crosses Chuck Norris and lives.
  • good for you dolly xx
  • Thank you everyone for your kind comments.
Frugal is still my favourite word. Saving for things feels great and stops any impulse buys. Nothing tastes better than a packed-lunch! far better than a sweaty, stingey bought sandwich or stale cake and ten times cheaper too! Still eat out though (thanks to Tesco Clubcard!)

Having an evening of reflection and have never felt so positive.
Wish I could take all the stress and angst away from those suffering right now and say "Its gonna be okay...I promise"
  • All over! Worth staying up for!
